The annual return of the all–star SFJAZZ Collective to our stage is always a cause for celebration. In past appearances, this exciting aggregation has performed the music of (among others) Chick Corea, Joe Henderson, and Stevie Wonder to a rapturous response from critics and fans alike. With members hailing from Puerto Rico, New York, Venezuela, Philadelphia, New Zealand, and Israel, the Collective's multi–cultural lineup mirrors the explosion of jazz talent around the globe. This five–night run will be devoted to the works of Miles Davis on 4/9-4/11; to the compositions of Antonio Carlos Jobim on 4/12-4/13, and to a program of SFJAZZ Collective originals on 4/14. The SFJazz Collective, wrote David Becker for the San Francisco Examiner website, is “one big, awesome machine, pulling off seemingly magical transformations – now it’s a big band, now it’s the Modern Jazz Quartet with commentary, now it’s a piano trio conversing with horns – with deceptive ease.”
